Antarctic Geocaching Adventure of a Lifetime with Argentina, Uruguay, and Falkland Islands – Feb 2024

At the time of writing this (March 22) this trip is underway.

This is a luxury expedition cruise. You will travel in comfort but must be fit enough to do some light hiking in the snow and ice, get in and out of a Zodiak, and you must like penguins. All shore excursions are escorted by Hurtigruten staff. Their tour options include hiking, camping and kayaking in Antarctica.

Trip dates Feb 21 – 23 (optional pre-cruise), and Feb 24 (cruise start) to March 10, 2024

Itinerary

The Hurtigruten part of this itinerary can be seen in more detail here. Learn about the ship and the type of adventure you can expect. The pre-cruise part of this adventure is designed to explore a couple of other nearby countries and add some geocaches in Chile and Uruguay to our maps!

Feb 21 – (pre-cruise) Arrive in Buenos Aires and get settled there
We meet in Buenos Aires, and get settled into our hotel. The evening will be yours for exploring.

Feb 22 – Tour Feb 22, 2024:Introduction to Buenos Aires.
Private 4-hour introductory tour of Buenos Aires, with pick up and drop off at the Savoy Hotel. This morning City Tour will allow you to become familiar with a number of attractions and points of interest in a relaxed and exclusive atmosphere with an English-speaking guide familiar with geocaching. We should be back by lunch time, but lunch and dinner will be at your expense. Note – the afternoon and evening of this day are free time for you to explore on your own or with friends.

Feb 23 – (Pre-cruise) Colonia del Sacramento, Uruguay
This day-trip starts with a pick-up at our Hotel and short bus ride to the ferry. We will have our own private guided walking tour of Colonia (with geocaching of course). The trip is wrapped up with a return ferry ride and private bus back to the hotel. Lunch and dinner will be at your expense. Note – this excursion will take most of the day.

On this morning, we check out of the Savoy hotel and bring our bags to the bus. We will head out on a 5-hour Rio de La Plata tour with the best panoramic views of the city and then cross the 5th largest Delta in the world by boat, then spend time in the famous cobblestone streets of San Isidro, visit its Cathedral, and the main points of the city of Tigre. Geocaches will be found where possible, but they are sparse in the Tigre region. On completion, we will be brought to the Hilton to check in and join the Hurtigruten tour group. Lunch and dinner will be at your expense.
